Injections and Other Procedures Can Treat Chronic Pain
For those with long-term problems, steroid injections around the pain site can reduce inflammation. According to the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, this is effective for several weeks to months. However, repeated injections may result in further damage to the foot. In the most severe cases, the plantar fascia can be separated from the heel surgically, but this is considered a last resort as the foot may also lose arch support.
Although it is one of the more common foot problems, plantar fasciitis can severely limit your ability to accomplish everyday activities.
